Noviteti Monterosa
Monterosa Ski News - Winter 2006/2007The lift that will replace the Castore skilift is called Gabiet Lago chairlift, in the marvellous area of Gabiet. It will be a three-seated chairlift with fixed coupling, with a capacity per hour of about 1200 people. In particular it will be at the children and beginners disposal for their first curves on their skis, 2300 meters above the sea level, swallowed in a great scenario, at the feet of one of the main area of the Monterosa Ski domaine, that of Passo dei Salati, skis-on link between the Gressoney Valley and Valsesia, between Aosta Valley and Piedmont.
On the Champoluc side, a connection lift will disappear, the Pian Tzeccon Chairlift, which will become a slope. Slope number 15 dei Larici in fact will be modified and will directly reach Ciarcerio (the departure area of the Mandria Chairlift), without any useless rises to be made up with lifts.
In Valsesia the programmed snow system on the Mullero slope will be ended; the coverage of the area from the arrival of the Bocchetta delle Pisse Chairlift to the centre of Alagna will be completed.
The need to increase the area that can be artificially snowed with the help of new snow shot cannons has been strongly remarked by a season very mean with snow for many months.
Nowadays, the shot snow represents a valid alternative to the natural snow and this is a challenge that Monterosa Ski is welcoming with far-sightedness. Since many years, in cooperation with the University of Turin, Monterosa Ski analyzes the quality of the programmed snow, so that they know for sure that they operate with respect to the soil and as a consequence to the environment that hosts both lifts and slopes.
Moreover, the skiers give confirmation every year of the fact that they do appreciate the slopes even when there is no natural snow and they do support this kind of choice in order to enjoy perfectly prepared slopes even when the weather is naughty.
The investment on programmed snow is enormous and binding due to the fact that during these years characterized by little natural snow, it is becoming more and more a substitution to natural snow, with exorbitant expenses. At the beginning this was a completion of natural snow, but since many years this system has become an instrument for the complete preparation and maintenance of the slopes, more and more often without any help by the sky.
Just to set out the programmed snow net at the altitude of 2700 meters for the Colle Bettaforca, where we never registered a lack of natural snow, in view of the new skiing season, we will invest 1.300.000 Euros. An enormous amount of money if we think this is only the first part of an investment that introduces the programmed snow system without giving any guarantees. And the final expense will pass 7.000.000 Euros for the conclusion of the whole project.
Very important investments: sometimes the returns are not even immediate and visible, such as the one concerning the Chairlift in Punta Jolanda, that after 15 years of activity must be, by law, meticulously overhauled: this will cost a lot, 1.000.000 Euros as estimate, except that it will be exactly the same as before to the skiers eyes...
Brusson and Gressoney-Saint-Jean too, they are improving and planning new areas with programmed snow, in order to guarantee the slopes even in marvellous areas, such as Estoul-Palasinaz and Weissmatten.
A new chairlift has been planned: for the winter season 2007/2008 it will replace the two skilifts Palasinaz 1 and 2. In the meanwhile we are waiting for the decisions to open the very requested Baby Snow Park in Estoul for th up-coming season: a real paradise for kids.
Even in Alagna, we will have again the nice Baby Snow Park in Pianalunga, closed to the gondola that comes from the village, in a very sunny position, on the Valsesia side, where the Funifor, still great work of art of the domain skiable and flying link between Piedmont and Aosta Valley.
The service to the skier cannot only involve technical interventions, but also a practical access to the Ticket Office, including all comforts of a very user-friendly area: the new Ticket Office in Edelboden (Gressoney-La-Trinité) will be launched during the season 2006/2007; during the last years it has been mistreated due to yard needs.
And finally lets give ample space to competitive spirit, on the Vascotcha slope in Antagnod, competition version, equipped with programmed snow and officially validated to spend sunny days, away from the big areas chaos and whose motto will absolutely be inspired by a feeling of genuine sport competition!
