Heading off for a grand freestyle day without limits – on the 16th of February, this was precisely the idea of a bunch of riders, who met our media crew at 9 a.m. at the gates of the Ciampai chair lift of San Cassiano for a major shred session at the Snowpark Alta Badia. Please don’t take us for boasters, but the resulting photos and videos are really spectacular!

It’s a fact that the weather on Saturday wasn’t exactly the best to film, but that didn’t matter, who said that a blue sky and a shiny sun are compulsory to enjoy a snowpark? We want to prove this urban legend wrong once and for all: to shred a park, all you need is to be really hyped at the beginning of the session and desire to sharpen your skis and boards’ edges on the metal of rails and boxes. And what can be better than shredding the Snowpark Alta Badia, which, in its fourth season, has become a fixed meeting place for all freestyle enthusiasts, thanks to its perfectly shaped and most varied setup, full of elements for every taste, discipline and level?

Our freestyle jam session started at its best right away! After the usual warm-up, our friends on boards and twin-tips gave a master’s showcase of good old school tricks, exploiting the massive 10, 12 and 14m launching pads of the pro line to the fullest and soaring into the sky with amazing jumps and refined airs. After stomping the imposing kickers, the guys scratched the metal of rails and boxes proving their creativity and entertaining both the media crew and the park’s guests.

At the end of the shooting, when all the park’s lines and obstacles had been put to good use, we all stopped at the Rifugio Ciampai lodge to take a break and relax. Here, we had a chat with park designer Simon Abel. This year, Simon took over the park from Renilla Margreiter and kept up the good work from last season by Rene from his first day on! The Snowpark Alta Badia keeps amazing the riders with the quality and variety of its setup and the impeccable work of its shape crew.

Simon, thanks for welcoming us with such a perfectly shaped park! But how much work is it to prepare the park for a shooting session?

“Easy, this is our job and we do it with passion. For this shooting, we closed the pro line on Tuesday. Together with three other shapers, we rolled up our sleeves and, armed with shovels and elbow grease, we spent four days modifying, enhancing and shaping the setup.”

The local freeskier Simon Volgger was also sitting at our table and was deeply impressed by the Snowpark Alta Badia’s step up in quality. After enjoying his tricks on skis, we asked him if he had fun for real during the shooting or if he was just pretending:

“You must be joking, of course I had a blast! The shooting was really cool, we filmed a lot and the park was much more fun than last season. The pro kicker line has really improved

a lot! This year, my favorite obstacle is the double kink rail at the entrance, really creative!”

In your opinion, what sets the Snowpark Alta Badia apart from the other parks?

“The park is particularly appropriate for making a lot of runs in a day, the chair lift is really fast and it takes you up to the entrance in a second. I recommend the Snowpark Alta Badia to everyone who looks for a park for all riding levels. Furthermore, the park is a true jewel for jibbers!”

We thank the two Simon and all the riders who took part at the shooting! We hope to see them soon at the Snowpark Alta Badia to compete in La Freestyla, the long-awaited QParks Tour Stop on the 30th of March, 2013. But of course, you don’t need to wait so long to see the guys in action, because they play the leading roles on skis and boards in these two videos we’ve produced for you! You can also browse through the freeski and snowboard photo gallery which document our day of wild shred!
As usual, you can find the latest news on the park on its website and Facebook page, stay tuned!
