The literary town of Olten invites you to all kinds of discoveries in the historic old town. On the Swiss Writers’ Trail, gripping audio routes from well-known authors such as Peter Bichsel and Alex Capus entice you. Along the Aare and under the gaze of the proud Säli-Schlössli, you reach Aarburg, where a baroque fortress also towers over the calmly flowing river. Leaving the tranquil little town, the path now leads past meadows and fields, through shady forests along Engelberg towards Zofingen.
The charming small town boasts no less than 100 fountains. Therefore, it is not surprising that Zofingen is also called the fountain town. The return journey can begin at the train station. Those who wish can visit the Roman mosaic floors, which testify to Roman rule in one of the formerly largest estates in Aargau, and then continue on towards Reiden. At the edge of the small town of Zofingen, the “Galgenberg” is passed, where in the past the heads of criminals rolled. Truly a diverse hike!
From Olten the route leads through the protected cultural landscape of Ruttigerwald. Following the Aare, you march to Aarburg, where you will see the famous landmark - Aarburg Castle - from afar. Subsequently, the path leads past meadows and fields, through shady fields towards Zofingen.
