Short but quite steep is the initial climb to the Wissener Kucksberg. After a view of the impressive sand fields of the former Alfred-Hütte, the short route leads along the medieval high-speed trail "Alte Poststraße" through deciduous and coniferous forest into the picturesque Brölbach valley. The surroundings of Wissen are strongly shaped by the former iron ore mining. Today, a path with impressive rock breakthroughs on a former mining railway track leads the cyclist back to the Sieg.
We start directly at the Sieg, just below Schönstein Castle, at the so-called Heubrücke. There's not much time to "warm up." Shortly after crossing the Siegtalstraße, which we cross straight over, the route takes us into the first long climb. If you then turn right towards the forest and the forced labor memorial, it's time to carefully ration your energy. Just behind the memorial follows a left turn, and from here it goes steadily uphill, past the slag heap of Wissen, further and further along thick oaks up to the Alte Poststraße. Once at a resting point there, you get an idea why the route is called "Stille Post" (Chinese Whispers): we find ourselves in the midst of dense forests above the Sieg, silence and calm dominate here. Nevertheless, the ascent continues steadily, and on the "Alte Poststraße" one can travel and make good progress as was traditional. Even back then, the main connecting routes did not often run through the frequently damp and flood-prone river valley but rather along the high ridges and natural landmarks.
Just before the shelter Hof Oettgesborn, we reach the highest point of this route at 313 meters above sea level. A rest is well deserved at this spot. The forest opens up to orchard meadows and offers a great view of the Sieg bend near Mittelhof. Far below, the Sieg glistens.
With a continuous, easy-to-ride up and down, it goes on until the "Oak at the crossroads," where we leave the old post road and turn left into a short counter-climb. From now on, it's "let it roll," down into the valley of the Brölbach. Shortly before the hamlet Nimrod, turn left onto the track of the former mining railway in the Brölbach valley. The former track guarantees pure nature experience and riding fun alike. At the ford in the Brölbach valley, we leave the railway line for a while and ride one kilometer downstream via the K72 to the Mühlentaler mill, where we turn right and leave the road. Our route describes a long left curve along the floodplains of the Brölbach. We are now clearly on the track of the former mining railway again. The narrow passages, blasted into the rock there for the railway at the time, make this even more apparent. Forest and meadows alternate, crossing small tributaries, passing by cows and large stands of butterbur.
Passing the motocross track area, we climb once more and circle a small industrial area near Brückhöfe—a hamlet in front of Wissen. From there, we also join the K72 again, which we follow to the L278. We briefly turn right and then immediately left again onto the cycling path accompanying the Sieg. After a short stretch on the cycling path, we turn right, take a short ascent, then cross the Sieg to the right in the middle of orchard meadows over a bridge allowed only for bicycles and pedestrians. From there, it goes straight on over the K66 until we reach, with the main road leading left to Wissen, the Siegtal cycling route again. Along numerous shops and the Wissen railway station, we pass the center to the large roundabout. Here we turn right heading towards Schönstein Castle. There, in front of the impressive backdrop of the castle, we turn left over the Heubrücke and over the Sieg, thus reaching the starting point of the route again.
