Description of the

When on the water, Hossa National Park opens up a new perspective for the nature lover and the numerous lakes and ponds in the area become literally within your reach. The easy and beginner-friendly lake tour starting from the accessible kayaking pier at Nurmiselkä follows a narrow lake channel and a wider lake area towards the Jatkonjärvi camping area, where there is also an accessible kayaking pier to facilitate landing. Accessible dry toilets are available at the start and finish of the route. Watching the common loon and other waterfowl at close range adds a special flavour to the route. At the end of Lake Jatkonjärvi you will hear the sound of Lounatkoski rapids. You can paddle the route either one-way or as a round trip. In windy weather, it is worth paddling close to the shores. The route can also be started from the kayak pier at the Jatkonsalmi rental cottage.

For information on the accessibility of the trail, please refer to the "Accessibility Report" tab.

Route information
Route

The water trail starts from the Nurmiselkä kayak pier, which is less than a kilometre from Hossa Nature Centre. Shortly after leaving, the route turns right and follows the strait of Mykräsalmi for 2.5 km and then over Lake Kenttäjärvi to the narrowest point of the route, the strait of Jatkonsalmi. Here it is possible to take a break and go ashore, but there is no official rest stop in the area. After Jatkonsalmi, the trail opens up to Jatkonjärvi, with a camping area on the opposite shore about 1.5 km away. On Jatkonjärvi it is worth paddling along the windless shore. In addition to an accessible dry toilet, there are numerous campfire places at Jatkonjärvi camping site.
