Rohrau – Culture, Nature and History in the Heart of Carnuntum
The market town of Rohrau is located in eastern Lower Austria, within the historical region of Carnuntum and near the Slovakian border. It consists of Rohrau and the village of Hollern and offers a perfect blend of cultural heritage, peaceful nature, and rural charm.
Rohrau is internationally recognized as the birthplace of the famous composer Joseph Haydn. His birthplace has been transformed into a charming museum that gives insights into the life and work of this musical genius. His brother, Michael Haydn, was also born here – making Rohrau a key location in Austria’s musical history.
Another highlight is Schloss Rohrau, a Baroque palace owned by the Harrach family, home to one of the most important private art collections in Europe. The palace is surrounded by a picturesque park, ideal for leisurely walks.
The surrounding Leitha wetlands offer beautiful hiking and cycling opportunities through pristine natural landscapes. Its proximity to Vienna, Bratislava, and the Danube-Auen National Park makes Rohrau an excellent base for both cultural and nature excursions.
Rohrau – where music, history and nature meet in harmony.
