The former mining community Hüttschlag (1,020 m) is located 8 km from Grossarl and has share of the Hohe Tauern National Park since the 1991, the largest national park in the Alps with unique hiking opportunities.
Since 2008 Hüttschlag is also one of the - according to strict criteria - selected "mountaineer villages of Austria", a project of the Austrian Alpine Association (ÖAV) in the implementation of the International Alpine Convention.
In winter, the village is well connected to the Grossarl-Dorfgastein by ski bus. But winter hiking, snowshoeing, ski touring and cross-country skiing is a pleasure in Hüttschlag too.
